Abstract

Teachers, as one of the vital parts of school systems, have met unprecedented challenges during the COVID–19 pandemic period, including pedagogical, social, psychological, technological and administrative ones. Already facing numerous issues, such as excessive workload, emotional and physical demands of the teaching profession and the lack of professional learning opportunities that threaten teachers’ wellbeing and job satisfaction, it is increasingly seen vital more than ever to support teachers in coping with these challenges and effectively respond to their changing needs as the most important front–line workers in the classrooms. Considering that nothing will be same in the foreseeable future after the COVID-19 for teachers as well as all other stakeholders, the question that now arises is what kinds of teacher professional development needs arise in the post–pandemic era? In this paper, we attempt to provide some answers to this question and conceptualise the different needs of teacher development in the post–pandemic era.
