Wear properties of PTFE and C3F6 coated stainless steel in atmospheric and low pressure RF plasma

Abstract

In this study heat treated AISI 1050 carbon steel was coated in atmospheric plasma and RF vacuum plasma systems with different plasma parameters. The changed plasma parameters were treatment time, power, pressure, gas type and frequency. Polytetrafluoropropene (PTFE) polymer material was used in atmospheric plasma systems. In vacuum plasma system, polytetrafluoropropene (PTFE) and hexzafluoropropene (C3F6) polymer coating materials were used. Wear behaviour of coated surfaces were tested. Coating quality of RF vacuum plasma coated samples were superior to the atmospheric plasma coated samples.
