the 13th Century, at the Paris Arts Faculty, Averroism arises as a philosophical
movement that, previous to the Enlightenment, defends the autonomy of reason,
philosophy and science. Within such movement lay the roots of the secularization
and specialization of science and the origins of the modern way of
understanding its philosophical foundations. To show these issues, the
Averroist Boethius of Dacia will be taken as a paradigm.
