Abstract

Biomedical engineering (BME) is a profession in which the engineering knowledge and expertise are used for the service of medicine. The BME program is interdisciplinary necessitating a strong foundation built by courses taken from several disciplines. The program at King Abdulaziz University has 48 courses distributed into five years. Two of the courses in the final year are developed as capstone courses to unify the background of students and pave them the way to the real life. Students’ scholastic levels, capabilities and learning abilities are determined at the beginning as they take the courses. Then, the courses run dynamically with students’ involvements in carrying out teaching and course assessments. They contribute a lot to the maturity of students and achievement of the program outcomes to satisfy the ABET requirements.
