Intralogistics, in the rapidly increasing global business environment, becomes more complex to analyse and more challenging to manage. Recent developments in the field of intralogistics have led to fully automated warehouses. Thus, many industries automate warehouse facilities in order to obtain high throughput volume and improve the accuracy despite of the high operating cost whereby automated systems. To achieve the highest performance of warehouses demanded by today’s modern business, intralogistics system should be agile and flexible. However, existing intralogistics systems are not flexible enough due to bulk conveyor systems, huge sorters with high equipment and installation cost. Within this challenge, Cellular Transport System (CTS) has been developed as an alternative intralogistics system by Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics. Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (AS/RS), Autonomous Vehicle Storage and Retrieval Systems (AVR/RS) have been successfully used for many years in many applications and implemented at scores of facilities all over the world. Hence, the analytical calculation for the travel time with current intralogistics system is well known, whereas there is no still no available study concerning efficiency and effectiveness of CTS. In this study, the comparison of CTS with conventional systems by using analytical based modelling will be provided.
