Teaching major and minor modes with degrees is one of the teaching models being used in recent years. This model can be used in structuring and developing a sense of tonality through some inner hearing exercises which assist to hear and feel notes inside our mind without the need to sing. The aim of this model is primarily to internalize the major and minor tonality’s fundamental feelings, and enable a systematic teaching of cognitive and sensory elements of tonality. In this paper, after giving general information about this ear training model, which has been implemented in Istanbul Technical University, Turkish Music State Conservatory of Music Theory Department since 2010; variety of unique examples are presented. In addition, benefits of the model are discussed.
