Abstract

UNDER FRENCH MANDATE SYRIAN ECONOMIC STRUCTURE AND COMMERCIAL RELATIONS WITH TURKEY Abstract This research examines the economic relations between Turkey and Syria under French mandate. In this context, the mandate administration's policies and economic structure in Syria, were examined on the basis of the literature. In addition to the size and composition of trade relations between Syria and Turkey, between the years 1926-1942 were analyzed. The analysis was based on the data set compiled by foreign trade statistics which was published by the republic of turkey during the considered period. Among the findings of the study it was observed that managed by considering the interests of France during the period, Syria has not shown remarkable economic growth and despite the advantages of proximity and similarity, commercial relations with Syria and Turkey declined.
