Ismail Gulec was born in October 20, 1970 in Kadikoy. He graduated from The University of Istanbul, Faculty of Literature in 1993. His M.A. degree at Istanbul University, Institute of Social Sciences in 1997 and PhD degree at the same Institute in 2002. His doctorate dissertation is about Ismail Hakki Bursevi’s Masnavi Commantary, Rûhu’l-Masnavi.
He had worked between June 6, 1996 –October 5, 2005 at I.U., The Institute of Turkish Research Studies, as a researcher. Between October 6, 2005-June 23, 2015 he has worked at Sakarya University, Education Faculty, Department of Turkish Education as Associate Professor, assistant professor and professor. Starting from June 23, 2015, he has been working at Istanbul Medeniyet University as a Professor.
He is interested in Old Turkish Literature, Turkish Mystic Literature, particularly Mavlana’s Masnavi and it’s translations and commentaries in Turkish.
Dr. Gulec has many books and articles, participated in many international symposiums. One of the most important books’ of him is Ismail Hakki Bursevi’s Ruhu’l-Mesnevi (Istanbul: Insan Publications, published in 2004) doctarate dissertation. Another is Turk Edebiyatinda Mesnevi Tercume ve Serhleri (Istanbul: Pan, 2008).
He is married and has two boys.
